For this strip, I tried to make all the shadows solid black, instead of hatching like I usually do. Having large areas of black makes the strip look fuller. Even though I didn't draw any backgrounds for this one, it still looks fairly detailed, at least to me.

  1. Higher contrast to the eye makes the characters more 3-D, and lines appear neater. I guess you have to be more careful about what areas are to be shaded-hatching might be more forgiving. And we've been trained, not in a good or bad way, that high contrast in graphic form engages a reader more in the moral (I guess) aspect of the story, putting us more in the driver's seat. Just a thought.
